LOW TABLE — OBJECT LEUCI

8/4인치 물푸레나무를 기본소재로 사용하였으며, 검정 도료로 염색 후 폴리우레탄으로 마감하였다. 이 좌식 테이블은 상판의 두께와 무릎 공간의 높이 그리고 테이블의 높이 그 사이의 최적점을 찾는 과정이 흥미로웠다. 하단부 상판을 지지하고 있는 에이프런은 가로 폭에 비해 세로 폭이 두터워야 안정적인 역할을 수행할 수 있지만, 두터워질수록 하반신의 자유로운 움직임을 구속하게 된다. 테이블 상판의 폭이 충분하다면 관계없겠지만, 이 테이블은 일반적인 크기를 벗어나, 길이에 비해 폭이 좁은 편이다. 따라서 두터운 에이프런이 중심부를 가로지른다면, 사용자는 하반신을 자유롭게 사용하기 어려울 것이며, 그로 인해 상판의 사용 범위도 줄어들게 될 것이다. 이 문제를 해결하기 위해 목재에 비해 변형이 적으며, 강성이 좋은 알루미늄 합금을 에이프런으로 사용하였다. 그에 따라, 70mm 가까이 되는 두께를 지닌 양측의 다리와 에이프런의 조합을 설계하는 과정에서, 사용자만이 누릴 수 있는 숨겨진 디테일이 추가되었다. 이 절제된 장식은 심플한 전체 형상의 흐름을 방해하지 않도록, 그리고 전체적인 조형의 흐름으로부터 하나의 반전 요소로 작용하여 사용자에게 희소적이며 특별한 가치를 느낄 수 있기를 희망하며 설계하였다. 또한 이 장식은 에이프런과의 구조를 이어주기 위한 필연적인 조형 요소임과 동시에, 추후 상판과 분리가 가능하도록 하여, 수리 혹은 커스터마이징을 위한 여지를 남겨두는 기능을 수행한다.

8/4 inch ash wood was used as the base material, dyed with black paint and finished with polyurethane. For this sitting table, the process of finding the optimal point between the thickness of the top, the height of the knee space, and the height of the table was interesting. The apron that supports the lower upper plate must be thicker vertically than horizontally to perform a stable role, but as it becomes thicker, it interferes with the freedom of the lower body. It wouldn't matter if the table top was wide enough, but this table is outside the normal size and is narrow compared to its length. Therefore, if a thick apron crosses the center, it will be difficult for the user to use the lower body freely, which will also reduce the range of use of the upper body. To solve this problem, aluminum alloy, which has less deformation and good rigidity compared to wood, was used as the apron. Accordingly, in the process of designing the combination of legs and apron on both sides with a thickness of nearly 70mm, hidden details that only users can enjoy were added. This understated decoration was designed so as not to disturb the flow of the simple overall shape, and in the hope that it would act as a reversal element in the flow of the overall form and provide users with a sense of rare and special value. In addition, this decoration is an inevitable formative element to connect the structure with the apron, and at the same time, it functions to allow it to be separated from the top plate in the future, leaving room for repair or customization.
